Details:
Bill Dixon first picked up a guitar in 1958, and learned "Hard Travelin' " from a traveling folksinger named, "Danny O'Day". That was in Columbus, Ohio in a long-gone coffee shop called "The Avant Garde". Bill was 14, had just acquired a Harmony archtop and a black turtleneck sweater, and was a bit too young for the Kerouac-inspired hipsters in the place, but he tried to fit in.
There's been a lot of water over the dam since then: Bill worked his way through two degrees at The Ohio State University, taking weirdly diverse jobs along the way; bartender, bouncer, cook, speech writer, political campaign manager, zookeeper, radio announcer, iron worker, pet shop manager, artist, book editor, and yes, folksinger. While finishing his Master's degree, he taught school in Ohio for two years. After a brief stint in advertising, he went into banking, where he became CEO of a savings and loan association, then into his own successful real estate company.
A few years ago, Bill wrote a book, Guitar Collecting,(by Bill Dixon), which has now sold through three printings.
Today Bill is putting together his second book, on his adventures in the 1960's, and assembling a collection of poetry about Maine. He writes and performs folk and blues songs. He's also a successful artist, working in oil paints, doing sea and landscapes, nudes, work and circus paintings, and paintings of musicians. He can be found listed in Davenport's Art Reference Guide, and other books on artists. (Listed as "William P Dixon"). He divides his time between Maine and Florida. His hobbies include fishing, travel and gardening.
People who are interested in Johnny Cash Kris Kristofferson Jim Croce should consider this download.
