CD Notes-
"The Misleading" represents two chapters in the Hoodska chronicle and so it is devided into two CD's -
SessionI - was recorded in 2006 when the band acted mainly as a club band, playing original songs in festivals and venues and making party people dance. originally it was supposed to be released in the summer of 2007, but in the beginning of 2007 the Hoodska started playing an acoustic Instrumental show every Friday morning in an Arts and Crafts market in Tel-Aviv. in this new surrounding they still made the audiance dance but this time the audiance was normal everyday people. the Hoodska played lots of ska oldies (mainly by the skatalites) and pretty soon wrote a lot of original instrumental material of their own. a regular audience was building up in both club and street scene and so the band decided to record another session of some of their new instrumental music - SessionII.
SessionI, recorded and mixed by Gad Baruch at Fazilogic studios 2006.
SessionII, recorded and mixed (analog) by Uri "Mixmonster" verthaim in a secret underground cave, 2007.
Mastered in West West Side Music (NYC) by Alan Douches.
Biography-
In the summer of 2,004, lead singer and bass-player Haggai Zehavi was offered a deal by a friend tattooist â to write him a song in exchange for a tattoo â an offer you canât refuse! Out of that challenge grew the HoodSka Explosive, and 3 years later the song âSkin Ink in Skaâ is the opener of the bandâs 2-cd debut album â âThe Misleadingâ.
After the song was written there was a need for a group. 2 friend musicians - Yoav Elkayam (percussions) and Ido blaustein (drums) were also into playing ska, and the three started gathering musicians who were into playing on a weekly basis - Eyal laserovich (keyboards), Yotam Troim (trumpet) and guitarists and sax players who came and went like socks do. For nearly a year the band spent itâs time on writing songs and playing old ska hits (mainly by The Skatalites), trying to figure out how to play ska traditionally. Things went on like this, until new arrivals joined the band â Alon the big and real (tenor Sax) and soon after Benny âBenonâ Matalon (guitar). Finally the band started taking form. In September 2,005 they were encouraged to go-out on stage by fellow Israeli ska band Los-Caparos, and the 2 bands started playing venues together. Since then the band kept performing and set-out to record itâs first album. In the midst of this process Yotam the trumpet-man left, and his space was filled by Nimrod Talmon (trombone), and so the final cast of the band was revealed.
The Hoodska Explosive sound is, and apparently will, remain evolving. With Ska as its mother ship, the band decided to research different influences of umza-umza music and combine them in their style - Kleizmer, polka and reggae music are some.
Today the band plays in venues, clubs, and festivals, all over Israel, as-well as itâs weekly basking gig in the Nachlat-Binyamin âarts and crafts marketâ in Tel-Aviv, every Friday morning. It also plays weddings and events when requested, and plans it's world tour for this upcoming summer.
People who are interested in The Slackers The Skatalites Beastie Boys should consider this download.
