These songs illuminate fragments of Cade's troubled life and lineage. The story behind them is never fully told, instead Hoping Flowers Bleed leaves it to the listener to infer or imagine what isn't shared. There is no moral, no ultimate meaning, to what is told of the story. And while the story itself is vaguely religious, there are no answers here, no proselytizing. As the curtain closes at the bleak twilight of Cade's life, despite his unique insight into the truth, he is left waiting for a revelation.
As Hoping Flowers Bleed flits between fragments of Cade's life, the tone of the album changes. At the child's birth the music is serene and quiet, the vocals immediate and intimate. Hardship comes quickly into Cade's life, and as his journey through life grows harder the music grows more and more aggressive and violent. Finally a turning point comes in the young man's life, and as abruptly as his world view alters, the tone of Hoping Flowers Bleed's music changes.
