Flutopia is a rock/jam/jazz band based in Boston. The music consists of original melodies, intense grooves and high energy improvisation. The group's unique musical flavor reflects the creativity and individual style of each of its members combining to create the unique sound of Flutopia. While the music is predominantly instrumental and jam-based, occasional vocal tunes (remeniscient of the early psychodelic rock scene) are featured. Now and then a familiar cover is thrown in.
Though individual influences range from Santana to Pat Metheny, Keith Jarrett to The Who, Charlie Parker to Steve Gadd, the band is able to pull it all together in a seamless fashion, forming their own style of musical expression.
An exciting aspect of Flutopia is that they never play their songs the same way twice. Even the band members don't always know how a tune will turn out each time they play it. On stage, the band gets a feel for the song as they play it and then goes from there. One night Flutopia will rock out on their tune "Savra" and the next show it will have a more mellow, dreamy sound. The next time it'll be different again (we'll let you know how it turns out).
With all the spontenaety, the one constant is the non stop energy. Even as the band moves from fericious solos and high energy grooves to mellow and pensive sounds, one always feels the intensity and feeling of each band member, and of the group as a whole.
