16 MP3 Songs
FOLK: String Band, FOLK: Traditional Folk

Details:
If you are seeking acts that are a world apart from the music industry and are looking for a superb band that, indeed, performs and promotes our âAmerican Cultural Heritageâ then I would suggest you look no further than the âHeritageâ String Band.

âCapture the Spirit of Americaâs Pastâ with beautiful music from around the civilian and military campfires, wagon trains seeking new lands west of the Mississippi, in the saloons, minstral theaters and ships on the ocean waters of the 1800's. We feel we have a very unique style and sound that when combined with our song narrations presents a very different perspective to our audiences that instills a fervor of patriotism and makes one feel âProud to be American!â In other words our robust, toe-tapping, hand-clapping, and sentimental thought-provoking music helps bring our audience on a â19th Century Americana Musical History Tour.â

The band has performed all over New England at state and town fairs, festivals, assisted livings, senior centers, town commons, a national convention, private functions, memorial dedications, historical societies, and many other venues. The musicians performs in period clothing with flags, lanterns and other details of the 1800s. The band includes narrations, lead singers, rich vocal harmonies with banjos, guitars, fiddle, drums, tambourine, accordion, tin whistle, harmonica, spoons, washboard, jaws harp and bass fiddle,

Wherever the band travels may take them, they are met with appreciation and excitement from onlookers. Organizers of events the band has played for have nothing but the highest praises for the band. (See what audiences have said about us!)

Now l would like to introduce the band members.

ED QUIGLEY⦠a/k/a phinius, the Commander, formed the âHeritage String Bandâ when he decided to take this beautiful music from around the campfires of long, long ago as a Civil War re enactor out to the general public in 2000. Sgt. Papa plays percussion in the band on the bass drum, Irish Bodhran drum, wood spoons, tambourine, does vocals and also takes the audience on a musical history tour with narrations of the times. Ed is retired as a small business owner, lives in Whitinsville, MA, with his bride and âbest friendâ Lu, has 3 children, 10 grandchildren and his pet therapy dog âLadâ who helps keep Papa healthy with 3 long walks a day.

LEO NORMANDINâ¦Leo was the first member to join the band, and is fondly known as the âOld Dogââ¦â¦Leo is in his mid 80âs and plays by far the best harmonica these ears have ever heard! Leo cannot read music and has never had any formal training. Just tell him the key and get ready to roll! Although handicapped by a serious lung problem from working with asbestos in his younger years Leo uses his harmonica as therapy in breathing. Leo excels in gospel and blue grass music, lives in Douglas, MA with his wife Phyllis, and their favorite pet âCassie.â

DAN DONOVANâ¦Known as (âSgt Dannoâ) Dan is a retired Mass State Police Drill Instructor who joined the band some 6 years ago. Danno plays banjo, guitar, wash board, sings bass and enjoys singing all kinds of music from barbershop with the Worcester Men of Song along with playing in the Irish âJug of Punchâ band. Married and living in Shrewsbury with wife Patti, Dan found his way into 19th Century Americana music while re-enacting around a Civil War campsite.

JIM McCROHONâ¦Another member from Shrewsbury, Ma, Jim is married to his lovely bride Marie, has 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Jim, now retired, worked 40 years as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. Known as âMaxiâ Jim was an original member of the âJug of Punchâ an Irish folk group that is still playing steadily for the past 36 years at the âOld Timer Restaurantâ in Clinton, MA. Jim has been with the Heritage String Band for 6 years playing the 5-string banjo, accordion, tin whistle & bass pedals, and sets up the sound. He also contributes with arrangements and researching great old time tunes for the band.

BUD SAVOIEâ¦A practicing attorney in Providence, RI, Bud lives in RI with his wife Carol amid a large and diverse domestic animal population and has 5 children. Bud has been an old-time musician for longer than he has been an attorney. Bud plays fiddle, banjo, mandolin, jaws harp, and many other instruments too numerous to mention, along with singing vocals. Bud joined the band in the middle of 2002 and has been an immense help in arranging and researching great music from Americaâs past.

KEN TAYLORâ¦An outstanding Bluegrass bass and guitar player, Ken joined the Heritage String Band in 2004 after hearing us play on a town common while he was a member of the Parks and Recreation Dept. Ken is a traveling salesmen in manufacturing and also has his own band âThe Blackstone Valley Bluegrass Band.â Ken is married to Jean, lives in Northbridge, MA. Ken is always in demand and you never know where you will find him playing. He can be found backing up many local acts ranging from folk music to lounge/dinner acts.

CHERRIE WESTCOTTâ¦Effectionally know as âMinnie Pearlâ with her straw hat, and long gown on and playing bass, Cherrie joined us in 2006. This gal brings more enthusiasm and emotion to the stage than all of us combined! Cherrie is also a big bluegrass fan. She is married to her beaux, John, who also helps with setting up our sound equipment, lives in Upton, MA, and is a dental hygienist.

Thank you for taking the time to read read about us and listen to a few of our selections from our latest CD âRolling Home to Old New England.â And now we bid you all a fond adieu and a fare thee well. Stay well and play well. Oh, and by the way we wouldnât be mad if you told your friends about us!
