I was born in Stockton, California in 1968, and I spent about 20 years there going to school while living with my parents, my brother and my sister. Neither of my parents are gay.

We had a dog named Mandy who would pull us on skateboards when she was young. She had a litter of babies, so for a while, we had a garage full of bastard puppies pooping and peeing everywhere. As she got older, she became less active and put on weight. When looking back at the time I spent around her, I realize that I didnât appreciate her as much as I would today.

I studied piano and guitar with Bill Eriksen in Stockton, and I briefly took lessons from Shirley Turner in Stockton as well. Bill taught me pop songs, jazz, blues and classical music and a little bit of theory. Shirley focused solely on classical music. I took piano lessons from Carlo Busotti while attending San Francisco State University where I studied music in general.

In high school, I was wild about the guitar, so I played it a lot, making up little instrumental songs. I think I started writing songs when I was about 14 or 15. The first one I remember was about crashing while skiing and hurting my neck. One lyric went, âOuch, my neck, it hurts so badly, not good at all. Could you fix it, I need it by tomorrow, so I can turn my head, when they yell and scream and shout, and wait for any utterance from Paul(ette) (Iâm transgendered)â

Iâm transgendered, so Iâve been through the emotional wringer with that. There are all of these so-called âexpertsâ out there who think they know whatâs good for you and whatâs right and wrong, so Iâm happy that Iâve waded through a lot of that knee-deep, energy sapping crud. But I still live with daily challenges, thanks to ignorance and fear, that of my own and that of others.

I love writing songs and singing and getting people to kind of âlet goâ a bit.
