Who are Phauna?

Phaunaâs music has an intimacy and vulnerability that utilizes a spare and direct electronic musical backdrop. Think David Sylvian meets Air. Mix it up with a vocal sound that wraps you in velvet and dripping honey.

Phauna are Sally McKay - composer, vocalist, guitarist,
keyboardist, arranger/producer - and Mike Young - bassist, keyboardist, programmer/arranger. The pair began recording and producing together for Sallyâs 1995 CD âNever Say Niceâ. Calling themselves Lovage they released in 1998 their stunning and heartbreakingly intimate âIdiots & Mysticsâ. A shared love of electronic driven beats saw the pair moving more and more into the dance spectrum all the while maintaining the shape and melody of song. In 2003, the pair, renamed as Phauna, released two 12âs and a full length CD, âParadiseâ on Play Records, one of Torontoâs leading independent dance labels. Their songs have been remixed by the likes of kemeticJust, Augusta (Paul E. Lopez, Patrick Paredes, Stephanne Vera - Tecknostep) Sans Soleil, Middlefield, Brian Ireland, tuube and DJ Peace Harvest.

With the release of their new 6 song EP In The Dark, Phauna combines a more electronic backdrop while lyrically tackling the âlost & foundâ of life. Their current music has an intimacy and vulnerability as electric and acoustic play freely. This is emotional music that touches the heart.
