This project covers several different genres of music and it is dear to my heart. When I was growing up in South Alabama in the 50s, I was exposed to blues, gospel, country, and big band music on a daily basis. Big bands with featured vocalists like Frank Sinatra, Margaret Whiting, Bing Crosby, etc. were on the radio when my mother was in the house. On Saturday night, it was The Grand Old Opry, and on Sunday it was Southern Gospel on the radio and in church. I heard the field hands singing blues and spirituals in the field as they worked their way through my fatherâs corn, peanuts and cotton. I actually got to see Hank Williams twice before he died in 1953

Most songwriters I know write the music with which they grew up. The subject matter may be contemporary but the tunes have been imbedded for a long time. My tunes are a mixture of what I heard as a boy.
