These tunes are from my recently released cd called "Surfjazz". I also call the style of this music âSurfjazzâ. I have been searching for a genre that combines all the elements of music I have listened to in my life, for a very long time. Those influences are too numerous to mention. I hope you will hear them for yourself. The music is also influenced by my environment. I live on the âedge of the continent.â It is truly a peaceful and beautiful place. I am enchanted and enriched by the ocean and the mesmerizing beauty of the coastal ponds of southern Rhode Island. I am also a musician who has been enchanted and challenged by jazz and improvisation for over thirty years. All world rhythms are fair game in "Surfjazz". Surf the world, Brazil to Africa to New Orleans second line. I love them all. I play them as I hear them, filtered through the prism my own experiences. The idea of the songs was to treat them like âstandardsâ that most jazz musicians play and learn to improvise on, but to have contemporary chord progressions, arranging techniques, and lyrics. The heads have more of a pop feel but I improvise over the whole form. I am writing now for the next "Surfazz" cd. I hope you enjoy listening.
