Well, there's really not much to tell. It's the classic story of "Boy meets Guitar - Boy Loses Guitar - Boy gets Guitar back. And lives happily ever after." OK, not quite. I'll explain.
I've always had a love-hate relationship with my music. On one side is a burning desire to entertain people. I love that. On the other side is a burning desire to practice as little as possible. See the problem?
All this came to a head in November of 2003 when I discovered a book called "The Purpose Driven Life", by Rick Warren. That book, through the grace of God, changed my life. The change began on "Day 9" in the chapter titled "What Makes God Smile". On page 75 there is a reference to a line from the movie "Chariots Of Fire". At one point in the film, runner Eric Liddell exclaimed, "When I run I feel God's pleasure". That thought had a tremendous impact on me. I asked myself, "What is the one thing I do, that when I do it I feel God's pleasure?" The answer was "singing". And I immediately knew what God had been calling me to do - which I had been ignoring - all my life.
"Reach One Through Me" is the first collection of songs to come out of this revelation as to my new Purpose Driven Life. Each song seemed to come out of nowhere. Sometimes God would wake me up in the middle of the night to write lyrics or to give me the melody for a new work. It is almost as if God is writing them, not me.
I pray that you too will find pleasure in my singing. If you do, please send me an e-mail and let me know if any song in particular touched you in a certain way. I'll try to respond to each e-mail, personally.
Let me know if you have any prayer requests. For it is in praying for each other that we truly grow in God's love.
And lastly, feel free to share this music with your church, your friends, your spouse, your co-worker, even with a stranger. It is my prayer that these songs would bring a smile to your heart. And in turn you would bring a smile to God's heart by sharing his love in the unique special way that He has created in you.
