A hypnotic blend of film score music mixed with ethnic rhythms steeped in a longing for peace in a war torn country. 18 MP3 Songs WORLD: World Fusion, NEW AGE: Healing Details: What People are saying about the Music: " It would be a shame not to mention Ben Euerby's work on the film's music. The Vancouver composer created an introspective atmosphere as important as the images themselves." Francis Plourde, The Ubyseey Magazine "Still blowing the sand out of my eyes. I'm struck. The music is hypnotic - so forlorn and appropriate." Tom Shandel, Documentary Filmmaker (the innovator behind âThe Corporationâ) Bio Inspired by life itself, Ben finds music everywhere and everyday in life. As a multi instrumentalist his sense of music is innate and the momentum of his exploration into composing demonstrates this ability. Ben displays versatility with styles and is adept at composing scores for film including dramatic and reflective cues, creating catchy TV and radio themes, as well as writing Funk, Reggae, Latin, Jazz, Techno and Pop tunes. Although well versed in many styles, Ben's personal composition style is something that is unique unto itself. It involves improvisation and spontaneity during the composition and recording process. "I like to think of composition as setting myself up for good mistakes," says Euerby in reflection of his own style. Starting on his own volition, Ben began playing on an old electric organ at the age of 8. Moving onto piano and saxophone as he got older, he later found inspiration from his high school band teacher to pursue a career in music. After flourishing musically in high school Ben went on to Graduate with honor grades from the Internationally recognized Selkirk College Contemporary Music and Technology Program. Majoring in composition, there he studied film scoring under the direction of Genie Award nominated composer Don MacDonald, as well as studying music for T.V. and radio, songwriting, computer applications to music and ensemble playing. About the Film Two former Israeli friends, one lives in Canada, the other in Cambodia, on a farewell visit to the Israeli occupied Gaza Strip. The result, a dramatic and emotional panoramic drive through 20 Israeli settlements dotting the Gaza Strip, one month prior to their inevitable destruction. Combined with hundreds of close up digital images (taken by Dror Marcus), the wide screen panoramic digital video footage (taken by Erez Yanuv Barzilay) reveals an absolutely surreal experience: partially abandoned villages, flourishing agriculture projects and a unique mixture of inhabitants. Most people they encounter are trying to deny their imminent fate. They are surrounded by concrete barricades and electronic fences, with massive armed forces buffering the diminishing Israeli presence from the independence seeking Palestinians. In a land filled with chaos and contradictions, Surreal takes a lyrical journey into the madness through the lenses of the two former Israelis. A surreal glance at a land that no longer exists.
