CHAPPO is raw-bone blues, moonshine folk-rock, butane-fueled soul and funk with the sweet embrace of pop and a dj-less spin of hip-hop. Itâs music youâd make with a tire iron, a hubcap and a one-string guitar. Itâs rubber bands and bouncy balls. Itâs social-political commentary in an adventure song.

The band CHAPPO emerged from the collaboration of musicians working on a recording project conceived by singer/songwriter Alex Chappo and New York producer, Andrew Felluss. Grounded in impulse and passion, the project was initially intended to be a three song demo recorded live to capture the raw energy found in Alexâs solo shows but something else was discovered. âI knew when we hit the first song, âRattle the Bone,â on the first take on the first session, that something unusual and collaborative was taking place,â Alex says as he flashes a smile. âIt wasnât a flawless take, but it was infused with a rusty surge of energy and excitement that sucks a person in.â

CHAPPO regularly plays in New York at venues like Rockwood Music Hall, Pianos, Fat Baby, RBAR, and more.

âSometimes I think we need a fence between us and the audience just as a safety precaution, like they did in âBlues Brothersâ,â Alex jokes. The energy of their live shows eddy and swirl between the performers and the audience in a volatile mix thatâs as explosive and as it is exciting. âThereâs always at least one heckler in the crowd,â he continues. âWe encourage it. It always keeps the night fresh, alive and in the moment, and there ainât nothing wrong with that! We use our fans for inspiration as much as they might be using us for some entertainment.â

When you go see a Chappo show, hereâs a checklist of things they think you should bring: a tattered umbrella, your fatherâs dusty mallet, some sparklers, any bag-o-tricks, a vintage pint glass that you can cheers gleefully with, and something pink.
