Waiting for cannons...

âContrastâ is an album that celebrates what I cherished so much about music when I was a kid. I loved listening to Tchaikovsky- and trust me, thatâs not in a pretentious way; I was listening to the 1812 Overture, waiting for the cannons. I loved the beginning string section, the way the woodwinds joined- and I loved the furious passages between the slow sections. But as for the slow sections; I hated them. As my taste broadened, I noticed one thing remained the same from those days; I was always waiting for the cannons.

Itâs the contrast that makes everything so worthwhile. Itâs the vegetables before the dessert. You need it for the rest of it to matter, to make sense, to exist. I know a football coach who hated coaching one of his teams because they never lost a game. How could you know what a great feeling it is to win if youâve never lost? Itâs the same with music. Think of your favorite songs, orchestral pieces, anything; what do you like about them? I doubt youâd say the whole song. Youâd probably say, âI like that part whenâ¦â

âContrastâ is about finding those moments. Not only within the song, but between each individual song. Itâs admittedly schizophrenic- like a mix tape put together by throwing a bunch of CDâs in the air and just grabbing a track of each CD you catch. This music is not meant to only relax, or only excite; itâs just made to make you feel.

About the Composer -


Collin Simon has been composing music for over 18 years from stage to films. He began writing for community theaters when he was 13, composed the music for his first documentary when he was 16, and his first film when he was 18. By the time Collin was 20, he worked in a professional theater arranging, performing, and composing original musicals.

After a stint writing for student shorts and independent films, some of which went to prestigious festivals such as Cine Vegas, he began to work for York Entertainment. He has completed four feature length movies that have been released internationally to major video rental stores. He has also worked with Sterling Entertainment for whom he has written one score that was released through Lions Gate Films.

Recently, Collin and lyricist Elizabeth Muller wrote and original musical called 3 Ghosts that was performed 2 years in a row in New York; first at a high school, then at a college. A CD was also recorded using a new cast of singers, and that soundtrack will be available soon. Collin also wrote the music to a national commercial spot for Kellogg's Apple Jacks and he is currently finishing his score for an independent film called, âRageâ with a soundtrack for that coming out soon as well.
