The First Effect is a band from Medford, New York on Long Island. They are a band that plays a hybrid of music utilizing genres like: rock, hip-hop, club and metal. The band also experiments with other sounds that gives the band their unique style. The band was started by their lead vocalist, Gary, back in 1999. Inspired by the music released by the well renound band, Linkin Park, known for such hits as: Crawling, In The End, Somewhere I Belong and Bleed It Out. Gary decided to start a band basing his style directly from Linkin Park's style, thus the sound and style took a turn in it's own direction giving it a different feel but a similar sound. In certain tracks, you can hear the influence of Linkin Park in the tracks. The band began back in 1999 under the title of "X Infinity". Everything seemed to be going smoothly for the band, they had a Matt on bass, Jason on Drums, Joe on keyboards and Gary on guitar and lead vocals. Eventually, the band members went their own seperate ways and the lead vocalist, Gary, and bassist, Matt, went on to begin the new band "Anger Management". Starting the band anew, they brought newcomers Tony on bass, Joe on drums and Ryan on guitar and emcee. Matt returned doing DJ work and sampling as Gary continued to do guitar and lead vocals. The band then went through changes and some people came and went to become "A State of Confusion". The bands "final" decision and began to stick with it. The band at this point became mostly just Joe on drums, Gary on guitar and lead vocals, Ryan on emcee and Matt on sampling/mixing. In a debate between Joe, Matt and Gary, they decided to think about a new name for the band due to the original name sounding more like a CD title, thus The First Effect was born. Gary has been studying graphic design and worked hard on all the photos and images for the CD, band pictures and the website(s). In December of 2005 the band member and good friend, Matt, passed away after many trials of difficulties with the band. After all the bumps in the road, the band finally released their debut CD "A State of Confusion" in 2007 featuring the better known hits "I Don't Understand" and "Hypothermia". The band now works on their second CD "The Ember of Life" and continues to discover more new effects and styles for their music.
