WOMEN'S WORK
Judi Silvano has earned a place among the top jazz vocalists today. Her rich and engaging voice evidences considerable range, strength, and emotional weight, which has deepened over the years. On Silvanoâs 8th feature album Womenâs Work (June 5, 2007, JSL Records), sheâs in great form presenting under-recorded compositions by seven prominent jazz women: Mary Lou Williams, Abbey Lincoln, Sheila Jordan, Blossom Dearie, Carla Bley, Bessie Smith, Meredith DâAmbrosio, plus songs by bandmembers Silvano and Janice Friedman. Recorded live last March at New York Cityâs Sweet Rhythm Jazz Club, the album features Silvano and her swinging Womenâs Work bandâpianist Janice Friedman, bassist Jennifer Vincent, and drummer Allison Miller. A champion of original compositions and parity for women in society, Silvano has worked to gain respect as a Vocal Musican and as an Educator trains singers to become musicians.

Janice Friedman, a veteran Jazz pianist from New York City, has performed all over the world, constantly in demand among instrumentalists and vocalists for many different style players - traditional to modern. By the age of 12, Janice had an international ranking in the classical world that brought her to her first of quite a few appearances in Carnegie Hall. About this time she also started teaching, a tradition that she has continued to this day both privately and at Rutgers University. At the JVC International Jazz Festival, NY Times Jazz Critic, John Wilson, hailed her performance as âthe highlight of the evening.â For booking information, email JanPianist@hotmail.com.
Jennifer Vincent, bassist and cellist, has been on the music scene in New York City for the past 10 years. She has played and toured with Jon Hendricks, Betty Carter, Bobby Sanabria, Rudy Calzado e Cubarama, Ray Vega, Doc Cheatham, Abbey Lincoln, Roberto Rodriguez, Regina Carter, and other jazz and latin notables. She tours with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, can be heard on Abbey Lincolnâs Verve release âOver the Yearsâ and is featured on NBCâs 75th Anniversary âCosby Show Retrospectiveâ.
