User tags: rock experimental, rock goth, mp3 album
A mad collection of songs detailing Mohr's mental self-initiated spiritual collapse and ensuing recovery - hopping the genres from catchy rock songs, dark wave, dance, pub rock, nostalgia and genetic algorithm house music.
15 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Experimental Rock, ROCK: Goth
Details:
This collection really pushes it. As the final chapter in the Karl Mohr cassette legacy (1998), the genre and craziness collision goes into super-overdrive.
Here we find such massive successes as the Tom Waits-inspired "Impostor", the trance shuffle of "I Whisper", acoustic punk and pub rock. There are also truly novel moments such as the electroacoustic genetic-algorithm-programmed house destruction music of "Hello Dolly" -- the style boomerang brings this collection back to Mohr's Audio-Yo lunatic status.
If there remains a consistent thread holding the whole narrative together, it is Mohr's excellent lyrics, vocal expression and free-form subconscious-direct linguistics. Here you may find yourself understanding what's going on, when you are quite positive you shouldn't be able to. The moody poetry of "No Stars No Moon" and "New Rambunctilozilla" reveal a unique perspective.
With many, many guests here, you've never heard a more preposterous compilation of music. Hang on for the ride! Accompanying the creation of these songs was a full-on nervous breakdown and spiritual collapse for Mohr. It will be easy to see why! Indeed: be careful what you wish for!
The perfect soundtrack to help you on your way down to mental illness, or perhaps an excellent tonic to help you claw your way back up! The genius on this record is unmistakable.
Originally released on cassette, now available 24-bit re-mastered, in this new CD/MP3 format. Here these songs are re-released on their 10-year anniversary.
Parental advisory: some adult themes and lyrics.
Christian and Satanist advisory (both): some songs may make you unsure whether to cover your ears or applaud.
PETA advisory: no sheep were hurt in the taking of the bleat samples.
Geography scholars: New Rambunctilozilla is a fictitious place.
Audiophiles: "A Tiny Piece of Vinyl" runs at 72rpm.
Outdoor Enthusiasts: yes, the canoe was aluminum.
Some artifacts of the original tape masters is apparent on this re-mastered collection (hiss, pitch fluctuations, magnetic degradation).
Be careful what you wish for.
People who are interested in David Bowie The Irish Rovers Franz Ferdinand should consider this download.
