Rie Akagi is a popular recording artist & performer, who is recognized as one of the leading jazz flutists in Japan. She skillfully blends several music styles, including jazz, pop and Latin music. Akagi is also a gifted composer and arranger. As a musician & performer, she has played with such notable musicians as Tito Puente, Chevere, Pancho Sanchez and Makinto.
Akagiâs album Café Nostalgia is an excellent collection of songs which showcases her outstanding flute playing, and her songwriting ability. Akagi composed four of the eight songs on this album (the title cut âCafé Nostalgia,â âNo Hay Amor,â âEste La Lluvia,â and âLa Poemaâ). Other noteworthy songs on the album are âLa Brisa Del Surâ (by Carlito Infante) and âArmandoâs Rumbaâ (Chick Corea). Akagi is accompanied by a stellar group of musicians on this album, including Michelle Diaz (piano), Eddy âGuaguaâ Rivera (bass), Ruben Jimenez (drums), Heriberto Rey (guitar), and Domingo Aragu (keyboards).
