Comes from a family of musicians. Grandfather JB Maxcy was first man to play harmonica live on the radio. -Atlanta Journal, Sept 22, 1923
Started singing in public when I was 3 years old at the corner barber shop.
Did session work around Memphis until 1981. Worked in Sun Recording Studios, American Studios, Ardent Studios, Sounds of Memphis, Cream/Hi Studios, Stax, and Stairway Studios in Memphis.
Was a featured performer at the first five Memphis in May music festivals.
Opening act in concerts with headliners: Rick Springfield, Pure Prairie League, Styx, Stephen Bishop, Koko Taylor, and Eddie Clearwater. Performed on stage and/or recordings with Furry Lewis, Leo LeBlanc, The Hombres, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bonnie Bramlett, Lindy Hearne, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, and played with Don McNatt and the Smplzat Band, in additon to fronting my own Harp Country Band at the Palomino in Los Angeles. Hosted a popular songwriterâs showcase in Los Angeles at the âHideawayâ in Shadow Hills. Many celebrities would come out (some to perform), including Bonnie Bramlett, David Carradine, William Shatner, and others.
âHarp Countryâ CD released in 1998. Over 10 years in the making. Three of the songs from âHarp Countryâ were featured in the motion picture âDevil Girlâ (DVD Available July 2008). One song, âDown So Longâ was featured in its entirety in the movie and a complete scene was built around it, according to movie producer Tracy Wilcox. For more details about the movie go to www.devilgirlthemovie.com.
Lived in L.A. from 1981 until 1994. Won competition in 1993 for the California Country Music Associationâs âInstrumentalist of the Yearâ for the 3-state area (CA, NV, AZ). Was nominated for several other awards including Entertainer of the Year, Band of the Year, and his song âHollywoodâ (on an upcoming CD) was nominated for Song of the Year.
Moved to Winchester, KY in 1994 and has worked in the central Kentucky area since, performing at nearly every music venue in this area, including the Boone Pioneer Festival in Winchester, Lexingtonâs Mayfest and many others. Altus Records (of Winchester) will release more new CDs in the near future. One is titled âOld Freight Trainâ and will be comprised of original songs written by Ronn and other songwriters. Another live CD titled âBondo and Ronn Live at the Iâ was recorded live at the Chevy Chase Inn (CCI or âIâ for short) It was released in late 2007 locally. It features a duet between Lexingtonâs iconic Roger BonDurant and Ronn, both singing and playing different instruments. BonDurant, or Bondo as his friends sometimes call him, is arguably the premier guitarist in the central Kentucky area, and has a great fan base of loyal followers. Bondo and Ronn are also members of a 6-piece Band âThe Sons of the Frigidairesâ. They perform all around the central KY. area.
People who are interested in Bob Dylan Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Charley McCoy should consider this download.
