"Surat" is the Thai nickname of Russell Van Pennington who has resided in Bangkok Thailand for the past 17 years. Surat worked in Thailand as a Christian Volunteer reaching out to youth at risk and sharing the Love of Christ with them through music.
Surat played in venues around Thailand ranging from bars in the red light districts of Pattaya, to detention centers, schools, hotels, shopping centers, and outdoor concert venues. His songs are varied and include such genres as rock, country, folk, and Thai Isaan style music.
Most of the songs are sung in the Thai language, but some are a combination of Thai and English. If you have ever lived in Thailand long enough to have a basic understanding of the culture and language, then you will be sure to enjoy the songs, "Hello my Name's Surat", "Yim Yai", and "Sue Mia Chan Mai Dai"
