Shoegaze vs. Americana. 9 MP3 Songs POP: Psychedelic Pop, ROCK: Americana Details: Press: Tim Powels (The Church) âcertainly has what many bands dream of â A SOUND.â The Seattle Times âintoxicating new song called "Affected" In Music We Trust âAs soon as Dayna Loeffler opens her mouth, you'd swear that Mazzy Star has found her way out of a rehab clinic somewhere and re-emerged under the name Half Light.â Bio: âJust give it a tryâ encouraged Brian. Heartbroken over Half Lightâs disintegration, Dayna reluctantly agreed to give guitar players Brian and Scott a chance. She quickly realized they were all coming from the same musical space. A quick post to Seattleâs âLadies Who Lunchâ e-mail list and another Dayna, with a ây,â was found to play bass. After a succession of drummers, Jeff was found and the rhythm section was solidified. The rhythm section is not timid of the ethereal vocals. Scott and Brianâs guitars weave around each other, reminiscent of The Cure or Luna. Many tracks utilize pedal steelâs Americana flavor. The songs manage to be dreamy and dense like Slowdive, but also pop-oriented similar to Mazzy Star. The heaviest tune, âBurn it Down,â features Barb Hunter on gypsy-style cello. Half Light utilized their years of studio experiences to record their latest release, âSleep More, Take More Drugs, Do Whatever We Want.â Inspired by Jimi Hendrix records, they aimed for a vibey room sound with the drums. The living room was modified, and âthe boxed wineâ sessions began. Thanks to the ubiquity of ProTools, guitars, pedal steel and vocals were recorded in various environments. The band acknowledges that mixing a record is a fine art, and something they would rather have a professional tackle. All being huge fans of the Church, Tim âtimEbanditâ Powelsâ name surfaced. There was doubt that timEbandit would be interested, after all, he lives in Australia, and likely wouldnât have time for an unsigned band from Seattle. There was an e-mail exchange, some rough mixes sent, and an agreement made. TimEbandit, who prefers the album title, âAwake at the wheel of the somnambulist mobileâ describes that the album, âcertainly has what many bands dream of â A SOUND.â He also notes that Half Light are, âimplicated and responsible for a tech breakdown curse,â that resulted in the final mixes, and the heart of Spacejunk Studios being destroyed by an angry Mac. After a complete studio overhaul, new final mixes were made and the files made their cross-ocean voyage back to Seattle, and will be released to all on June 3, 2008.
