"If Corinne Bailey Rae is the next India.Arie then San Francisco based Nya Jade could be the next Corinne Bailey Rae..." LA Times

No one plans on being hit and thrown by a speeding car while crossing the street as a pedestrian. It certainly wasn't on Nya Jade's top 10 things to experience in life. The Ghana born, San Francisco based singer's plans changed the night of an accident that occurred her junior year at Stanford University. The then pre-med student turned to music as she healed from her injuries. Armed with the acute reminder
that life is short and can change in a matter of seconds, Nya re-evaluated her goals and soul searched for what was truly her passion- music. With her diploma in hand she embarked on a new journey.

Nya moved from her Palo Alto campus to San Francisco where she has become a sought after performer for high profile Bay Area events. At the invitation of Vh1, Nya appeared at the network's San Francisco Save The Music function with British soul singer Joss Stone. Nya was also the finish line entertainment for this year's Nike Women's Marathon, an event with 20,000 participants.

Accolades have also followed the independent Soul-Pop singer. The LA Times featured Nya on the cover of their Calendar Section along side Corinne Bailey Rae, India.Arie and Skye Edwards in an article titled "Guitar Soul Divas". The honor of this feature was especially notable with Nya being the only unsigned artist in the group. In this article, renown pop critic Ann Powers noted, "Bearing six-strings and evocative visions, these artists transcend categories with music of a different color."

Nya continued to find herself in good company in a USA Today cover story about the need for more serious female artists on the charts. The story highlighted Nya as a "young female troubadour worth keeping your eyes and ears on" among artists like critic darling Regina Spektor.

A self proclaimed NPR groupie, Nya was thrilled to be a guest on WNYC's Sound Check show with influential host John Scaefer. The opportunity to perform and interview on the NPR affiliate is an experience she talks about fondly. Nya says, "NPR has always been my source of great and interesting information. It's official. Merely walking into the New York station studio felt official."

So where does Nya draw musical influence? Her youth as a global nomad (Nya's father is a former United Nation's Physician), may explain her "no boundaries" approach to music. She says, "In my house there was African music, Reggae, Calypso, ABBA and Michael Jackson. I wasn't
exposed to rock or hip hop until I came to the US. Since then I've been absorbing all music." Nya's 2006 critically acclaimed debut "My Denial" was released on her own label Katako Records allowing her the freedom to explore accenting her songs with pop, rock and acoustic elements. This time around her new album "The Road To Adam" finds Nya exploring more of her soulful funk side while not abandoning her
creative desires to experiment sonically on a track or two.

Outside of music Nya's other passion is philanthropy. The singer is the process of launching the NYA Foundation (Nurturing Young Africa) in an effort to support the welfare of the orphan generation of Africa. Both her father's work with the UN and her own travels in Africa contribute toher desire to give back to her birth continent.
