The Raining is a rock trio based in Portland, Oregon. Their music is usually defined as art rock with catchy melodies and interludes of sonic exploration. The band has an appreciation for the bizarre and randomness as an art form, often switching instruments and instrumentation to generate ideas. All three members have different musical backgrounds, and influence which helps diversify the music as well.

Dennis Hitchcox and Daniel Parker began the Raining in 2003 as a duo. The 2 friends released solo albums and played various shows together prompting the decision to team up and form some kind of musical group. Both had aspirations for something more with their music, and adding Trent Hinchman on bass in 2005 allowed more flexibility in the way of composition and ideas. After trying different drummers, the band decided to organize the band as a trio - moving Daniel to drums and vocals, Dennis on guitar and vocals, and Trent to bass and other instruments.

Over the last several years the changing music industry took the power from record companies and put it in the hands of the artist, thanks to companies like cdbaby. The Raining embraces this independence and takes full advantage of the new opportunities these changes provided. The Rainingâs CD contains an assortment of original compositions that were recorded in several locations at different times, giving the impression that each track is a different band.
