"A vibrant take on European folk and roots traditions and a nice line in world-influenced, jazz-inflected Celtic tunesmithery (and songs)." fROOTS Magazine 7 MP3 Songs FOLK: Modern Folk, FOLK: Contemporary Celtic Details: Nottingham based five piece band TANGATA play mostly original tunes with a couple of traditional reels and songs thrown in for good measure. The music ranges in style from rich jazz injected Celtic melodies, to the odd vocal harmony, through to Baltic frenzy and hefty funk to get people on their feet! Dirty Linen magazine said: " .. if you like the idea of mixing the complex, largely un-foot-tappable rhythms of Bulgarian music with English and Irish roots, there's the highly eclectic Nottingham quintet tangata whose Kick the Bucket [self-released (2007)] is a wild and very entertaining spin from the North Atlantic to the Black Sea. The title track features a throbbing accordion dancing circles around a fiddle, while the "Oakwood Stomp" set sounds like an English country dance tune pumped up with a Balkan beat. Even the traditional song "My Johnny Was a Shoemaker" gets the accordion beatbox treatment with an Eastern European digression in the middle, although the band also offers a more rhythmically conventional and wonderfully harmonious version of "Spencer the Rover." Well-played and very creative stuff."
