I (Robert Towey) have always loved music and music in turn has proven more than just a sanctuary but also the purest form of salvation. I started playing at 15 and soon after hit the road in some very unconventional tour stops,mostly street corners,parking lots,hobo camps,happy hours,open mics. Getting there by way of freight trains and on foot or thumb. Prior to this last year I was working with the P.O.W's( prisoners of the war on drugs ), a band of felons,always looking for that musical furlough. I did 12 years on a marijuana conspiracy. I made the mistake of helping a friend out of a jam and wound up in a reverse sting costing me most of my twenties and thirties. My options were to cooperate with the feds ,(rat and help set up others ) plead guilty, or go to trial,which my lawyer assured me was a good option.This legal advice surely got me another 7 or 8 years.I just felt like I could have never broken the law with out the governments assistance. Entrapment I found out is not a defense,and for these mistakes I paid the price. Out now I still face the discrimination society places on the felon (an inability to vote, and the added burden placed upon us by employers and landlords). Many of my brothers remain behind the razor wire. For them I now speak of the injustices of the drug war. I'm continuing this journey in the freedom of music outside of the fence. The Americons is one of those projects. I'm also open to any other musical invitation or gathering of song. R.E.TOWEY
