About GBM

GBM was formed by musician JJ aka (John (JJ) Johnson) who, after co-forming the band, 'Wayne County and The Electric Chairs' in 1976, toured and recorded extensively with the band throughout the British Punk explosion, and the band recorded 3 LP's,12 singles, and two EP's, until the band fragmented in1979.

Then, JJ, along with remaining 'Electric Chairs' members, Henri Padovani and Val Haller, co -formed the New Wave / Indie band 'The Mystere Five' with Johnson co-writing / producing and performing lead and backing vocals, drums and trumpet. The band recorded and released the first two singles on the then newly-formed, 'Flicknife' record label, (now part of Cherry Red records).

He later became part of, and recorded and performed with, The Flying Lizards, The Skids, Thomas Dolby and others, who released further albums and singles.

Johnson formed GBM in 1982, an unconventional, experimental music project and teamed up with Duncan Bridgeman, ( now part of the duo, '1 Giant Leap'). Johnson eventually signed to Island Record's subsidiary, Interdisc and Warner Bros Music, and GBM released three singles, 'Strange News', 'Diction and Fiction', and 'Whistling in the Dark', and an Album, 'Method in the Madness ', to much critical acclaim.

Duncan Bridgeman left GBM in 1984 to pursue various music / production work, and JJ continued GBM in intermittent, unconventional forms, as well as other music, film, and online projects through the 90's and into 2003.
