Details:
"Fewell''s playing is a masterpiece of clean articulation and clarity. The economy of line, the inner glow that radiates from each note, and the sure pacing are all marks of a mature artist at his peak." - Ed Hazell, jazz journalist.

Following Dizzy Gillespie's advice that "Jazz was born in America, but Europeans discovered it first!", guitarist Garrison Fewell headed off to France to play in Marseilles during the summer of 1983. Since then he has completed nearly 100 tours covering the entire contintent, perfoming in clubs and festivals from Amsterdam, Paris, Copehnhagen, and Milan to Leipzig, Krakow and Budapest.

Garrison's recordings with pianist Fred Hersch and bassist Cecil McBee brought him recognition as one of the freshest voices to emerge in the 1990's, winning the Boston Music Award for "Best Jazz Album -1993", a place in the "Top Ten Records of the Year" by United Press International, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Coda Magazine, Guitar Player Magazine "Editor's Choice" and a four-star review in Downbeat.

Renowned for his vintage guitar tone and elegant, lyrical style of writing and playing, Garrison has expanded beyond the modern-mainstream sound to play "free" and improvised music with artists such as vibist Khan Jamal and saxophonist John Tchicai.

"The Bill Evans of the guitar!" - Todd Kennedy, WFIT

"He's got a mature, lived-in sound that's simulataneously cerebral and blue. Ideas flow effortlessly from his mind to his fingers...superb melodic, telepathic jazz...one of the finest neoclassical guitarists of our time." - Guitar Player Magazine

"His beautiful tone and effortless, fluid lines draw the listener in as only a select few have done. A fine guitarist who appeals on the sublime, emotional level of a Bill Evans or a Jim Hall." - Wired Magazine

"The very title of Fewell's first Accurate CD - A Blue Deeper Than the Blue - suggests the layered indigo shades and poetic echoes heard from his guitar. Each note has shape and substance, each solo definition and flexibility... legato phraseology, ripe emotions, pristine beauties of sound." - Jazz Times

Garrison is a Professor of Guitar and Ear Training at Berklee College of Music since 1977. Performances include NYC's Blue Note and Birdland Jazz Clubs, and tours in the US, South America, Africa, Caribbean, Canada and Europe.
