Four years ago my wife, Sharon, purchased a guitar for my Christmas present. I soon began taking lessons and discovered I enjoyed composing songs. Steve Pinckney, my guitar teacher, told me that I wrote simple âmeat and potatoâ songs. I was pleased when he suggested that I record some of those songs and he agreed to produce the CD.

The songs are richly flavored with his musical talents. Steve played his guitar as well as a variety of other instruments, arranged the songs in a variety of styles, and at times sang harmony.

I greatly appreciated the expert recording skills, suggestions, and state of the art equipment contributed by Greg Towery, Rooftop Recording Studio. Gregâs percussion skills also added flavor to some of these songs.

Both Steve and Greg were very supportive and patient.

Tanya Doering-Pages, my daughter, masterfully formulated the CD covers and insert. Tanyaâs photographs and design capture the essence of this CD.


BEHIND EVERY SONG:

I still Believe: What were some of our beliefs throughout the different stages of life? As time went by, what beliefs did we jettison and what beliefs did we retain?

Storage Shed Blues: What if storage shed units were able to tell the story of their contents?

Loveâs Four Seasons: Metaphorically, the four seasons of nature parallel the four seasons of love. Ultimately, I picture an eternal love in a perfect setting.

Crossover: Using a simple country living motif, this song challenges us to live a genuine and honest life.

On the Hills and in the Valleys: The ups and downs of any relationship are reflected in this song. Specifically, this song was written about my 40+ years with my wife, Sharon.

Whatever, For Sure: As we age, the loss of freedom is a primal fear.

Time Well Spent: I will never forget the time spent with my grandson. Time spent with friends and family is âtime well spentâ.

May We Help Whomever is Next? My wife and I recently applied for Social Security benefits. The bumpy application process inspired this song.

Hold Me: The touch of a hand during difficult times is priceless.

Deep-to-Deep: The depth of Godâs love, manifest in multiple ways, speaks to the depths of our souls.


GENRES:

A blend of country and bluegrass, flavored with spiritual and relational themes. The themes and contents of the CD are timeless. These songs reflect personal experiences and observations gained along the pathway of my life. My hope is that, at some level, the listener will be able to relate to these songs. Letâs look into each otherâs eyes my friends.

I have a dream that a well-known artist might record some of these songs. Steve and I are planning to produce another CD this year. In part, we plan to use other vocal artists.
