NEW from David Roth - âPractice Makes Progressâ - his latest enhanced CD of âeasy-listening-protest-musicâ has 16 original songs plus a video of the title cut covering a wide variety of subjects from poignant to political, holistic, historical, and hilarious. Co-produced in Louisville with Grammy-nominee Fred Bogert, the songs touch on a songwriterâs life, media obsession with celebrities, accelerated learning models, personal growth through cancer, Ghandiâs introduction of civil disobedience to the world on September 11th, 1906, gratitude, an extraordinary story of a clean-up effort in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, a humorous country-western take on relationships, history of the space program, the celebration of imperfection, one family's story of Middle East conflict resolution, a visit to Panama, appreciation of small treasures, a song for Cindy Sheehan, a co-write with 92 third-graders on the theme of living together in peace, and a ukulele lullaby.
David is a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and community-builder who has earned top honors at premier songwriter competitions - Kerrville (TX) and Falcon Ridge (NY) - and taken his music, experience, and expertise to a wide variety of venues in this and other countries over the last two decades. Davidâs songs have found their way to Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, several Chicken Soup for the Soul books, Peter, Paul, & Mary concerts, NASAâs Goddard Space Center, and 10 recordings on the Wind River and Stockfisch (Germany) labels. Featured on many of Christine Lavinâs Rounder compilations, the former artist-in-residence at New Yorkâs Omega Institute (and two-time national anthem singer for the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls) has also been a songwriting judge at Kerrville, Napa Valley (CA), Tumbleweed (WA), Eventide Arts (MA), and the South Florida Folk Festival. Heâs also taught singing, songwriting, and performance at the Augusta Heritage workshops (WV), Puget Sound Guitar Workshop (WA), Common Ground on the Hill (MD), Rowe Center (MA), Swannanoa Gatherings (NC), Pendle Hill (PA), Lambâs Retreat (MI), Wisconsin Stringalongs, the National Wellness Institute (WI), and for many other songwriting groups and associations around the country. 2008 marks Davidâs 21st year of full-time original-music-making in concert halls, conferences, coffeehouses, camps, retreats, corporate trainings, and special events of all kinds throughout North America. David strikes many chords, hearts, and minds with his unique music, moving tales, offbeat observations, and powerful singing and subject matter.
"David and his music will touch you to the very depths of your soul. Heâll make you laugh and cry, inspire you to rise and fly..." Jack Canfield, co-author, Chicken Soup for the Soul
