Guitar-grounded retro-sounding Pop/Rock featuring strong lead and harmony vocals, clever arrangements and memorable melodies throughout, with lyrics to stick in your mind and soul

8 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Retro-Rock, POP: Beatles-pop

Details:
What I do is New American Pop/Rock with a Retro-British Sound and Feel.
Additionally, the music on this CD is a throwback to the years when pop/rock songs were more well-structured. The structure of those songs was mainly due to the influence of the Beatles and others on the songwriting culture of the time. This music shares those same influences, and attention to structure:
These songs have unique intros to kick them off and strong endings ("outros", if you like) to tie them up at the end. They have catchy and memorable melodies and harmonies throughout the verses and choruses to catch the ear. They feature bridges (or "middle-eights") with music that appears nowhere else in the song in order to develop it - to take it somewhere new. They all have cool guitar and keyboard sounds; some jangly, some edgy - and they're played accordingly - supported by a powerful and melodic drums and bass section to keep things moving. The lead vocals are rich and thick, with backing vocals either rich or reedy to suit the song. The last thing is the lyrics, which are easy to identify with and relate to. That's the element that creates a sure and lasting bond between the music and the listener.

You don't believe me? Play some of the 2-minute samples and listen for yourself:
"Hand over Fist" has all of the above elements as well as powerful horn arrangements that are vaguely reminiscent of "Magical Mystery Tour", "Got to Get You Into My Life", and "Martha My Dear".
"I'll Never Understand" is a pop song in the "Beatles '65"/"Beatles VI" vein with a feel of early 60's country rock a la Carl Perkins. There's even a hint of George's "You Like Me Too Much".
"Walking Through Your World" is a heartfelt rock ballad with vocals that build to a church choir intensity and guitar parts that sound like ice-cold stabs from Stevie Ray Vaughn combined with "Little Wing"
After that, listen to the rest of the 2-minute samples and you'll see that this CD is worth the money (only $10!) and worth repeated listenings on a small stereo system like everyone has, or - hopefully - a giant stereo system like everyone used to have.

The CD itself is the result of no longer having a band to play in and wanting to be sure that the music wasn't lost. I always played in pop/rock outfits in Boston and I always wanted to make a record on my own but was too busy rehearsing and playing with new people all the time. Out of all the songs those bands produced, these are the ones that I felt had the most staying power - the most Timeless Sound, if you will.
I contacted my friend, Larry, to help me produce the songs and engineer the project. He rounded up this group of sharp players to help make these recordings and play any future gigs with. An interesting side note is that some of the engineering was done by Mike Denneen (The Click Five, Fountains of Wayne) when he was working at Q-Division Studios in Boston.
I'm really proud of the results. Thank you for taking the time to listen to These Eight, and thank you for your support.
