Details:
Profound Intent is an American Hip-Hop group with an R&B influence, responsible for introducing a new style of music called âUrban Crankâ. The group was originally formed as a quartet in early 2006, their single âPlay the Fieldâ released in December 2006 served as a door opener for the group. It has been said that the group is a spin-off of a pre-teen Hip Hop quintet âYoung Crowdâ which featured Mizz Redz and LaPret which formed as âThe Platinum Kidsâ in 1999. LaPret is also nicknamed âThe Platinum Kidâ.
Today, the Washington, D.C. native group is a trio comprised of original members, KieâArra âMizz Redzâ Pretlow (18), Devan âAzeâ Brockenberry (16) and Rapper-Songwriter Larry âLaPretâ Pretlow II (18). Taking on the role of a family act, Mizz Redz is the biological niece of LaPret; the two are often mistaken for âtwinsâ due to their overwhelming resemblance in personality and appearance. The two were also born the same year with Mizz Redz on April 27th and LaPret on June 19th.
Profound Intent is a positive Hip-Hop group geared towards setting positive trends and morals for todayâs youth. The group was formed by LaPret with Mizz Redz becoming the last original member to join after the group briefly performed as a trio featuring LaPret, Aze (formerly LilâAce) and the groupâs former Female Vocalist Jahnae âMistyâ Johnson.
Their first single release âPlay the Fieldâ is the only â released - recording which features all four original members. The group had expressed a deep dislike for the single due to its âshaky vocalsâ and âan unorganized line-up of the membersâ. The single eventually became a narration of the groupsâ split from Johnson and her Uncle (as manager) in December 2006.
Previously, their mid-2006 performance (as a trio) of an unrecorded single called âTime 2 Shineâ made headlines around the world when the single was mistaken for a slam at industry heavyweights Beyonce Knowles and Curtis â50 Centâ Jackson. By October 2006, this sparked the â year and a half - bashing of the group on popular message boards, radio stations and Wikipedia. During this devastating time KieâArra âMizz Redzâ Pretlow began appearing with the group as its fourth original member. Pretlow appeared with the group in a July 2006 photo with singer Kelly Price alongside Misty and LaPret as Profound Intent, but mysteriously nothing further until the release of âPlay the Fieldâ in November 2006.
The departure of Misty eventually led to a 14-month hiatus. The trio took this time to regroup after a replacement for Johnson was dismissed from the group in March 2007 after being officially named in the On Tap Magazine article which highlighted âPlay the Fieldâ and âTime 2 Shineâ. The group also recorded with their friend Shanice Cooper and newcomer Russell âRakiem/Rocâ Tolson.
The 2007 singles âLetâs Get Krunkâ and âWork Itâ leaked beforehand and received a positive response, however the group encountered many challenges maintaining as a quintet. Cooper and Tolson were identified as âcontest winnersâ and fans were told they were never official members of the group. They were greatly criticized for not making Shanice Cooper the new Female Vocalist. Today Cooper, LaPret and Mizz Redz remain close friends. In 2008 Cooper appeared on LaPretâs single âMake U Seeâ.
âGet 2 Know Usâ is an exclusive release from the group under their new label âSouth Capitol Recordingsâ, which features the all-new singles âSwerveâ (produced by Kajmir Royale) and âStreet Talkâ (produced by Mart85 Productions). The release also features an A Capella Edit of âSwerveâ and the âStreet Talkâ (Radio Edit). Both singles were written by Rapper-Songwriter LaPret. âSwerveâ also serves as an official anthem of The Yet Society, a nonprofit founded by LaPret.
