Indie rock meets the Brill Building in this female-fronted trio's catchy debut. Boy meets girl, but not without a bit of sweet cynicism.

ROCK: Retro-Rock, POP: Brill Building Pop
Details:
If you like your songs short and sweet and get excited by witty, thoughtful lyrics and melodies that follow you for days, then give a listen to The Beloved Infidels. Indie rock meets the Brill Building in this female fronted trioâs catchy debut, Trompe LâOeil Girl. Itâs ten cuts of snappy, hooky, edgy retro pop, full of inspiration drawn from many genres and with focused, tightly constructed songwriting and clear-as-a-bell lyrics, thereâs no doubt what the songâs about. Or is there? Itâs boy meets girl, but always with a bit of a twist.
The bandâs name comes from the Gregory Peck/Deborah Kerr movie about F.Scott Fitzgeraldâs extramarital romance and evokes a tendency to be different, contrary, yet strangely appealing. With a strong beat, chime-y, sometimes jangly, sometimes gritty guitar, a melodic bass line and upfront vocals, their music recalls a time when the song meant everything.
The Beloved Infidels is a Philadelphia-based trio comprised of Jackie Doyle, vocals and guitar, Jim Fisher, bass and Phil Fizur, drums. âTrompe LâOeil Girlâ is a DIY effort in every aspect with the exception of Philadelphiaâs finest, Pete Humphreysâ (Masterworks) mastering talents. The Beloved Infidels have tried to stay as true as possible to their live sound, and while a bit of keyboard, percussion and backup vocals and a modicum of guitar layering are employed, itâs the bare necessity to round out the sound. No punch-ins, auto-tuning or loops are used and the performances are as âliveâ as possible. No heavy compression is utilized and the final pressing is in line for certification with TurnMeUp.org, true to The Infidelsâ wish of subtle, yet varied dynamics. The result is a record that sounds fresh, new, classic, appealing and honest all at once.
People who are interested in Elvis Costello The Go-Go’s Deborah Harry should consider this download.
