KIDS/FAMILY: Children's Storytelling, SPOKEN WORD: Audiobook
Details:
Diane Bray was born and raised on a dairy farm in north central Pennsylvania. It is here that she learned to respect and care for the earth and all the life that it supports. It is here that both sides of her extensive family taught her the importance of family. Every year her paternal family gathers for a holiday weekend, sharing stories and news with upward of 50 extended family members. But the biggest influence on Mrs. Brayâs views of family comes from her maternal grandmother and her sisters. They always had stories of their own childhoods, as well as their parentsâ stories, which they told at Sunday dinners, holiday gatherings, family reunions, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries ... well, you get the picture.
Mrs. Bray attended college in New York City, where she lived for many years and where she earned a Juris Doctorate degree. Here she was exposed to multiculturalism in daily life and learned to appreciate diversity.
Mrs. Bray has always been a writer. As soon as she learned to read and write she created poems and short stories. Her ability to draw was developed by copying coloring and comic book figures and later, in college, developed to landscapes and still life.
She met and married her soul mate in New York City. It is he who has inspired his wife to follow her passion and her dreams. His support along with the encouragement from her family has made her writing endeavors possible. They have one daughter, Sarah, whom they both love and adore.
Mr. and Mrs. Bray currently live in Ohio. They moved there from North Carolina to be nearer their families.
Mrs. Bray dreams of writing childrenâs books for many years.
A Note From The Author
I began to write this book to teach children to be responsible for their pets. I wanted to show them that pets are living creatures deserving of proper care and respect. It developed into much more.
This book is the first of a series of five. The series encompasses the stories of five generations of iguanas as told by Ellie, of the last generation. It is written at the fourth grade reading level and would be a good bedtime story for younger children.
Barbara J. Hawkins, BS, MA Education & Curriculum Development is the editor. William L. Bray Regional Supervisor and managing partner for Pet Super Stores in North Carolina is the research consultant.
The first book is the story of great-great grandmother Annie, who was brought to the United States from Mexico. It follows her capture, journey, and acclimation to her new home. Ellie takes the reader through Annieâs new experiences and her reactions, observations and final feelings. The listener will experience Annieâs feeling of loss and loneliness, her apprehensions and fears, and most importantly how she deals with these feelings, and overcomes perceived set backs which are not actual set backs at all.
This series of books will envelop the above concepts plus explore other of lifeâs aspects. For example: being a first generation citizen, learning to adapt in a new environment, life away from family and familiar faces, remembering lessons and teachings, dealing with bullies and prejudice, and last but certainly not least... hope!
I hope to inspire children to live their lives with integrity and respect for themselves, their families, and others. I hope to entertain and move their parents, as well.
People who are interested in should consider this download.
