Unruly Stringband Music from the 1920's, 30's, & 40's
14 MP3 Songs
BLUES: Acoustic Blues, COUNTRY: Bluegrass
Details:
What happens when a punk bassist decides to hit the woodshed for a few years to learn the guitar styles of Mississippi John Hurt, Mance Lipscomb, and Sam McGee? He's eventually drug out by a former metal guitar player who has been playing upright bass with various old-time styles. And what happens after a few gigs? They come across a former jam band guitarist turned bluegrass mandolin player who's just mentally unstable enough to join in.
The Alabama Gravy Soppers are born.
Drawing from a vast collection of 78s, some unruly versions of those old tunes, and a free recording session at Whitney Houston's personal studio (don't ask), the "Soppas" have been wreaking old-time havoc ever since. Live shows consist of various tunes from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, rearranged for a touch of slightly out of control nostalgia. The debut CD is available at live shows and through the band's website. Free Mp3s are also available on the web site.
