Dr. Henry Lovejoy Ambler (1843-1924) was an American practitioner, teacher, and historian of dentistry. In 1867 he graduated from the Ohio College of Dental Surgery in Cincinnati and in 1868 he gained his M. D. from the Western College of Homeopathic Medicine in Cleveland. He set up a dental practice in Cleveland, and practiced there for many years, but in 1886 he settled in New Hampshire. In 1892 he returned back to Cleveland and became Professor of Operative Dentistry at the Dental College of Western Reserve University. From 1893 to 1906 he served as Dean of the dental school there. His works include: Tin Foil and Its Combinations for Filling Teeth (1897), Around the World in Dentistry (1910) and History of Dentistry in Cleveland, Ohio (1911).
