Rising Swing Star Debbie Curtis, affectionately known as âThe Mistress of Swingâ has taken her late father Eddieâs 17 piece band to even greater achievements with a fantastic line-up of top UK musicians as well as featured guest vocalists and dancers for live performances! Debbie is also unique as the UKâs only Fully Professional female Big Band Leader!

Many of the musicians involved also perform alongside such stars as Paul McCartney, Shirley Bassey, Jamiroqui & Robbie Williams to name but a few!

In The Beginning:-

The original band was founded as long ago as 1972 by Debbieâs dad, renowned Trombonist and Music Arranger Eddie Curtis. Eddie had played with many of the great UK bands of the 40âs and 50âs, was an arranger for the BBC as well as numerous major London publishing companies and consequently Debbie was brought up on Big Band music as he travelled the UK performing nearly every night of the week! In his time as leader the band backed many huge names from TV and show business!

Then Debbie Took Over:-

When Eddie died suddenly in 1993, Debbie, literally âinheritedâ his band, but by then she had the qualifications to front it with passion and confidence.

An accomplished professional musician and singer in her own right, Debbie plays piano and guitar plus numerous other instruments and can also sight read music. Sheâd also learnt a great deal from her dad as well as her mother Joy, who was also in the business, and had enjoyed a successful career as a top radio and studio session singer!

Debbie Changed Things:-

Not satisfied being purely a working band, Debbie has since completely re-structured the band with a view to attracting new audiences, her quote âPutting the BIG back in BAND! Sheâs recently brought in a number of younger and immensely talented musicians, plus her own dance troupe for live performances as well as era re-enactors such as âViv the Spivâ and other military and civilian characters who join the band on stage adding a ghostly glimpse into the past!

The band has firmly established themselves amongst the top UK Big Bands with recent national press and radio interviews reaching in excess of 14 million people. From national to local radio, the band are enjoying more and more airplay. On a recent national radio interview, the band website took such a massive rush of hits that it temporarily crashed under the strain.

Credibility:-

Itâs impossible now to number the amount of gigs the band has performed over its long history, but some of the more prestigious ones in recent times have been The London Palladium, Her Majestyâs in the West End, The London Savoy & The Café Royal.

The band has also been broadcast live on numerous occasions by the BBC.

Over the years, their involvement with various charities has helped raise many thousands of pounds in association with organizations such as Rotary Clubs, Masonic Lodges, Round Table Clubs and many more.

This 7 track CD was recorded in 2002 and is a mixture of live and studio recordings.
