This album was created over the course of one year spent in the lush Pacific Northwest, in alternating cycles of field recording, instrumental arrangement, and electronic composition. Unlike many artists who simply "add" field recordings to their music, the composer listened meticulously to match the actual pitches of the sonic landscape around her with the acoustic music. The result is a fascinating tapestry of sounds in a subtle composition that uses harmony and dissonance with intention and meaning.
Notes:
The album begins with half a minute of silence.
Kelvin Pittman plays alto sax in the beginning of Part II.
The end of Part II features the melodic humming of 200 members of congregation Havurah Shalom.
The album ends with deep, dramatic tones that will actually make your speakers "come alive".
