My wife and I moved to Denver in August 2007. Bricks & Cymbals was recorded in our new apartment from August 2007 to February 2008. I love setting up the same old recording gear in a new room and starting to record - there are so many new things to get accustomed with - How do the neighbors put up with beats flooding from above and below at two in the morning? I've been very surprised - most places I've lived, I've tenuously explored the noise/time of day subject with neighbors and found they aren't bothered by anything at any time of day. Or night. Maybe that's a testament to the music. It probably means they're bolting out of their places as soon as they hear the kick drum. Patrick Lee recording time = Neighbors' outdoor activity hour.

The tempos are way up on this record - I was listening to a lot of good dance music. I tried to keep some threads, themes, and sounds running through the record as well - I played with an orchestra for a musical recently and I think it gives so much to the experience when themes, melodies, and sounds come back through the ear thirty minutes after you last heard them. So check that out.

I'm happy with it. There are plenty of parts I love. And it got long on me, too. Eighteen songs, over an hour long... Pretty dang good value, if you're into that sort of thing. BRICKS & CYMBALS, MAN!!!
