Rick Ryman grew up in New Baltimore, OH, a small town along the Great Miami River, about 20 miles NW of Cincinnati. While small town life helped shape what he was to become, things didnât really start to change until he joined the United States Air Force a year after graduating from high school in Harrison, OH. It was while in the military that Rick bought his first guitar and taught himself to play. Following the natural order of things, he soon started writing songs and dreaming about Nashville. After leaving the Air Force, he struggled to find work, landing jobs driving delivery trucks by day and playing the music he loved on nights and weekends. These jobs proved a struggle for the restless Rick. Knowing music was in his blood, he decided to try his hand at broadcasting. Soon he found himself interning for WBVE in Cincinnati/Hamilton setting up for remote broadcasts. This opened the door for him as he got a break at a small radio station, WRBI in Batesville, IN behind the microphone!. He started out as a weekend on air personality, but soon got another break when the evening DJ left the station and Rick moved into his slot. For the next 4 years, he worked in radio for such stations as WRIP in Versailes, IN; WKSW in Springfield, OH; âKicks 96" in Richmond, IN; and WPFB âThe Rebelâ in Middletown/Dayton, OH.
By now, Rick was making regular trips to Nashville. Here he could âtest the watersâ to see if he should further pursue his dream of performing country music. He soon had his answer when he was offered a job driving a truck in Music City! This brought him to Nashville where he could attend songwriter nights and meet others that shared his dream. After being in Nashville a mere 4 months he landed another job that enabled him to deliver to businesses in the prestigious Music Row area. While cruising the âRow, he met Rich Adler, Grammy Award winning engineer/producer of Sound Wave Recordings ( his discography has many highlights including: Marty Stuart, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Dolly Parton, Ricky Skaggs, Alison Krauss, John Prine, Bela Fleck, etc). Adler helped Rick put together a CD he could show off. He was also introduced to Ross Allen owner and manager of Hillcrest Music, a country music promoter for the European market. Allen himself was named â2006 Country Promoter of the Yearâ by the ECMA. In Sept. of 2006 they released a single titled âWorkinâ to Liveâ that was quite well received by the European public, being the second most played song in all of Europe when it debuted at #79! As if this wasnât phenomenal enough, it went as high as #8 on the European Country Music Association chart and scored #1's in Austria, Germany and Ireland! It went to #2 in the UK and was a Top Ten hit in 6 other countries In fact, it stayed on the ECMA chart for 18 weeks, not bad for a debut artist! Another single, âLeg Manâ was #44 on George Backerâs Dutch radio show countdown of 2006!
They released another single at the beginning of 2007 called âHold on to Faithâ. This one climbed to #17 on the European charts, and scored Rick a #1 in Germany, and Top 10 in 5 other countries! It was this CD that got him noticed by Alexandria Altman, a.k.a. âMiss Hollywoodâ of Altman Media in Hendersonville, TN. She liked what she heard so much that she became his manager in January of 2007. Alexandria is no stranger to the business either! She is the author of 4 books, with a background that includes acting, modeling, TV writing and production. As if this wasnât enough, she is also Manager of Platinum Recording Artist, Chubby âThe Twistâ Checker! Not one to sit around, she quickly introduced Rick to Randy Hiebert, lead guitarist and producer of the legendary Bellamy Brothers. Randy (who has also worked with such greats as Eddie Raven, Jo-el Sonnier and Buck Owens) immediately wanted to get Rick into the studio to re-record his songs so as to bring out the true, and now nicely tuned, quality of his voice. Alexandria also teamed up with David Haisten, of Haisten Merchant Services in Los Angeles, who became Rickâs Co-Manager. David is the owner of Windgate Records, and is currently producing legendary group Confederate Railroadâs (âTrashy Womenâ âDaddy Never Was the Cadillac Kindâ, âJesus and Mamaâ) latest CD! Not a bad support team, agreed??!!
Together they hope to spread Rickâs talents coast to coast....and beyond! One need only listen to his music to see what they have already discovered, Rick Ryman deserves to be heard! Rick writes from experience, the stuff that makes up good, honest country music! Songs about truck driving, working for the man, and living life. Thus the reason for the title: âTruckinâ, Workinâ, Lovinâ and Hurtinââ Heâs done more than write about this life, heâs lived it! Let his voice bend with heartache one minute and lighten your heart the next with his own unique sense of humor.....listen in and see what the European audiences already know...... Rick Ryman is the real deal!
People who are interested in Merle Haggard Dwight Yoakam David Allan Coe should consider this download.
