it dazzles the ears with an impressive rollercoaster ride of instruments and an unforgettable melody.

Details:
Landing Party Records presents The Thungs long awaited second release, Blalblum. The first track, âMrs. Pelicanhead,â sets the stage for the intimate homemade yet polished professional sound to follow. It opens with unexpected chanting, conjuring images of circus strongmen with handle bar moustaches. Then it dazzles the ears with an impressive rollercoaster ride of instruments and an unforgettable melody.
Each track is lyrically inventive with pop references from Louise Brooks to Urkel. Just as inventive are the vocal styling and tone of the lead singer, Gabe: often accompanied by the entire band in hearty choruses. Musically, Blalblum is saturated with guitar, bass, keyboard and drums. Complimented by a saxophone solo is âDancing in a Pine Tree,â a track that showcases the bandâs talent with an undulating tempo and range of singing. Several instruments and percussion; accordion, clarinet, guiro, kazoo, bongos and drum machine are so well integrated itâs as though they were made for their respective songs.
The album as a whole is a song cycle, documenting the evolution of pop culture spanning the past century. Particular fondness is focused on early 60âs pop, hip-hop and 80âs power ballads. The latter clearly inspiring the epic âSuch a Pretty Girl,â satisfying every irresistible craving for a dedicated chorus and guitar solo. The two and a half years of writing and recording were well worth the wait for The Thungs fan base to savor this eclectic collection of thirteen songs.
Formed in Massachusetts in 2000, The Thungs are Shannon Purcell (guitar, vocals) Gabriel Sullivan (vocals) Wiggy (drums) Tommy (bass) Dr. Awkward (keyboards, accordion) Don Red (guitar)
