LET'S LOOK AT THE WORD JIVE to try an acertain it's meaning. To preface our discussion of this word, I would like to say that if you ask a hundred people....you would problbly get a hundred different answers. I have heard the term JIVE for many years and about the only thing that I am sure of is that it has a musical origin. I first came across it in the Big Band Swing song title of "NO NAME JIVE". This was a very impressive instrumental for a tune that no one could come up with a name for. Another song title "720 In The Book" was another one with this same affliction. ("720" will be on a later CD) Other expressions were... "Don't give me that JIVE"....and "You are not JIVING me are you?" There is also the variation JIVEY, which means SWINGING or JAZZY or played in a upbeat tempo.
