Down-N-Dirty came as a dream⦠A childhood fantasy to Kenneth âK.Bâ Baldon back in 1999 after sitting in a live freestyle session on Hiram Clarkeâs own 89.1 radio station. âI remember sitting in awe listening to my older cousin Derrick aka Lilâ Dee freestyling back to back with his neighbor Bernard, who was known as Lilâ NARD, with precision on tongue twisting metaphors and similes.â This was shocking to me since for as long as I could remember Derrick stuttered over almost every other word he said. Even though they were doing it for fun in a friendâs studio, from that moment I knew they possessed a talent that they didnât even notice. âIâm going start my own label and sign you two as my first group!â I said to them as we walked back around the corner to Alkay Blvd. âWhatever you say!â they replied. No one really took me serious seeing how I was just the little cousin and friend, but only God knew what the future held.
After high school graduation in 2003, I spent some time in my fatherâs hometown of Niagara Falls, New York. While there he introduced me to one of my second cousins whom I never met before. In a town where everybody knows everybody a new face peeked the interest of everyone. Everyone wanted to know who I was and where I came from. This led me to meet his best friend Bashir âStreetzâ Price who was the head of D.N.A, Niagara Fallsâ premier underground rap group. Everyone respected them! They always stole the show at local block parties and social events from the Falls to Buffalo. Streetz and I began hanging out daily and talking about our different cultures, plans and goals, from there we formed the Down-N-Dirty Entertainment, which was the same label in 2 locations. With the help of my cousin Craig aka C-Yo tha Criminal, also from Houston, and Mike aka M.F.H, we brought 2 different styles, from 2 different coasts that would leave people stunned the second they heard. We put his crew on to the Houston born sound of DJ Screw, S.U.C, Swishahouse, and others while they put us on to Nas, Jay-Z, D-Block, G-Unit and others which diversified our sound.
After spending almost 2 years in New York I decided it was finally time to go. I then traveled to San Diego, California where I met DâTyree aka Yogi who was the head of Demolition Records from Oakland. They had the West on lock with their signature⦠the Hyphy Movement which has turning the world upside down and getting everyone âstupidâ! After spending time talking and planning DND once again expanded but now to the Bay Area. Now we were complete! DND stretched from the East to the West with the South heading the movement. San Diego was also the birthplace of B.F.A.M (Brothers From Another Mother), which is the collaboration of guys from Houston, Boston, Oakland, Niagara Falls, Long Beach, Atlanta, Atlantic City, and Chicago. Now anywhere that DND goes we are connected! Since then the Down-N-Dirty family has grown into a locomotive force on the track for success, with the roster of more than just artist who are mastering their craft but brothers, cousins and childhood friends who came together for a common goal of making real music and having fun while doing it!
