FERGUS HAMBLETON BIO

Fergus Hambleton is a Toronto based singer composer and multi-instrumentalist with a thirty five year history in the music industry. Over those years he has been involved in many different styles of music and these styles are represented on the cd SNAPSHOTS.

In the 60's he was involved in the Yorkville scene in Toronto, playing in a number of bands, most notably A Passing Fancy and the Ginger Group. In the 70's he produced two solo folk rock albums for Capitol Canada ( All The Right Noises and Town of Fergus ) and a third album Fergusongs for the independent label Axe Records.
In the Toronto punk and new wave scene of the late seventies he played sax for local recording acts like The Diodes, Drastic Measures and the B-Girls and fronted a high energy band called The Basics.
With the arrival of the 80's Fergus started a music school with Jamaican legend Jo Jo Bennett which evolved into The Sattalites, a reggae band that has remained together for 25 years, recorded 6 albums and has won two Juno Awards plus numerous other awards and accolades.
Fergus has also studied voice with Charles Jordan, a noted Canadian teacher with an extensive knowledge of traditional folk music. He studied composition with San Dolin, one of Canada's' best composers and has applied this knowledge to arranging and writing music.

The SNAPSHOTS cd is an expression of Fergus' ideas and varied interests, with each track representing a different mood and feeling. The use of hurdy-gurdy, sitar, horns and a variety of pop instruments is meant to reveal the connection between many differing types of music, from pop to reggae to Celtic to the unclassifiable. The poem Lady, Weeping at the Crossroads is one of five by W. H. Auden that he has set to music.

Currently Fergus is living in Toronto, has a busy teaching and performing schedule and is working with The Sattalites and a number of other groups.
