Details:
Hampton Avenue was founded in 1996 by Debbie Fleming, a seasoned session singer/vocal arranger. She chose the best singers she had worked with, and added 4 younger phenoms from York University. On this CD, the singers are Debbie Fleming, Judy Tate, Stephanie Taylor, Suba Sankaran, Larry Folk, Dylan Bell, Tim Olfert and Tom Lillington. This group of singers toured and recorded for 6 years, and won CARA awards for their recordings, and they were honoured to receive the Jazz Report Award for Vocal Group of the Year in 1999. Their sound is silky smooth, with ringing, but "crunchy" harmonies, driven by the deep bass of Tom and at times the Vocal Percussion of Dylan Bell. The voices are arranged very instrumentally, and although the songs are all "a cappella" (no instruments) -- the sound is complete, as all the instrumental elements are present. The group is swinging and uplifting, the songs are entertaining, enthralling and at times soothing. Debbie Fleming's arrangements of these songs and others are being performed by choirs and jazz ensembles all over the world. Visit our Hampton Avenue website to learn more.
