Spirit, a vital or animating force: soul-- this truly defines its namesake. Born to sing, this 5â9 sultry vocalist from Jacksonville, Florida revealed her inner quest for stardom at the tender age of 12. Although singing came naturally to Spirit, her height afforded her to model instead. Modeling came natural, but her passion was singing.
At the age of 13, Spirit modeled in Naples, Italy. During her introduction into the modeling industry, Spirit signed a three year contract allowing her to mature as an artist. Soon thereafter, her natural beauty paved the way for her to become an opening model for top industry designers such as Versace.
At the age of 16, the newly reformed beauty, Spirit returned to the United States and focused on her music career. She then added songwriter to her résumé, writing âloved enhancedâ lyrics that encouraged listeners to embrace the delicacy of love.
As Spirit matured as an artist, the offers for her voice as an enhancement on other artist track(s) began to grow. Big Ballers, rap artists who premiered out of Miami, are one of many who featured Spiritâs melodious voice. With this exposure, Spirit traveled vigorously to secure her spot within the music industry as an exceptional performer and artist.
In 2005, the search continued; Spirit persevered in pursuit of musical stardom. Still searching for a record deal that would allow her to showcase her wide ranged vocal abilities, and writing skills, she hooked up with a producer to commence the recording of her independent album, The Philosophy of Love. Spirit never completed the album, but she continued to perform at concerts as an opener for many popular hip-hop and R&B artists, such as Lil Webbie, Khaya, Donnell Jones, Ce Ce Penniston, Trina.
Within the same year Spirit auditioned for American Idol making the top 30 of 87,614 in Orlando, Florida. Although Hollywood was not in her future, her dream was not deferred; Spirit moved on to a more important phase of life-- a spiritual journey.
âI began to self-reflect on where I am and where I wanted to be as an artist, so I decided to seek a higher power,â admits Spirit. She sought herself out intrinsically, packed her bags, with $200 total in her pockets, and moved to Chicago, Illinois in pursuit of a wealth of spirituality. Throwing caution against the wind, Spirit did not know what to expect, yet she journeyed on, thus, 2008 began a new year and a new life. Spirit arrived in Chicago and asked for directions to a homeless shelter. She was then referred to a ministry home. She vowed not to return home until something happened.
For 30 days, Spirit could make no contact with the outside world. The absence of extrinsic influences no longer affected Spiritâs life, but only what she imputed from within could transcend her spirit closer to GOD, a connection with her own inner spirit. Spirit left Chicago with a new faith.
A change came--Spiritâs journey led her to New Jersey in 2008. With a tireless effort for exposure, Spirit auditioned with her newfound faith, for the historical Apollo, in Harlem, New York. At first sight, one of the judges recognized Spiritâs luminous nature from years past, and requested her to sing her original auditioned song, âYesterday,â by Shanice. Without hesitation, Spirit was invited back to the Apollo to compete with other aspiring artists and musicians.
For the artist, good news came in pairs. Independent Record Label President/CEO, Kimberly Roberts had a 12 state casting call seeking a female vocalist. She searched web based A& R sites for unsigned artists when she discovered Spirit on www.showcaseyourmusic.com . After getting in contact with Spirit, Kimberly Roberts asked her to audition by singing a cappella. As one who always loves a challenge, Spirit belted her own version of âStranger in My Houseâ, a tune originally recorded by Tamia. L.A.D.S. President, Kimberly Roberts was without words, and arranged to meet with the undiscovered talent. Roberts signed her immediately.
Spirit will release her first single, âSex Anthemâ in June. The record label is planning to release her debut album tentatively titled âInner Spiritâ in late summer. The album is filled with grown and sexy tunes, with a melodic variety of life experiences with love. Spirits' debut album is sure to win over fans worldwide.
