John is also a composer who enjoys writing for the groups he has performed with as well as with other composers and songwriters when the interest arises. In 2003 he released "After Carefree Consideration" , a homespun sampling of his works arranged for solo keyboard.

A current area of exploration is writing or arranging short compositions for filmmakers. He recently completed two pieces for a student filmmaker's adaptation of a Franz Kafka short story, and a bizarre 3 handed piano arrangement of "Turkey in the Straw" for a period documentary.
