Ashlea Jonesmith is a dynamic songwriter who writes and sings about lifeâs many relationships. With Ashleaâs powerful yet often melancholy voice, insightful lyrics and creative melodies, she is able to evoke the deepest emotions in her listeners. Ashlea was born in Toronto and grew up near Bracebridge, Ontario. She learned to play guitar through the patience of her father, Blair Smith, a folk singer and guitar player who toured Canada singing and playing guitar as a young man. Coming from a folk background she sticks to her roots as well as drawing from the styles of country, pop rock and blues. Ashlea nervously began playing shows when she was 14 starting with high school assemblies and local coffee houses and working up to the local stage at Mariposa Folk festival at the age of 15. Now at 25, Ashlea has had the experience of playing various festivals and venues as a solo act and with friends, in Ontario and the British Columbia Kootenays. Ashlea is currently in the finishing stages of her first studio album containing songs played with a full band and tapering down to tunes comprised of only her acoustic guitar and voice. Now residing once again in Toronto, she can be seen at various venues around the city from time to time, and annually at Lose Yer Shoes summer music festival, near Orillia. Ashlea's new recordings would not be nearly as good without the help of Match Vox Studio's Jamie Matsukubo; her fiancé, Oliver Heywood-Jones and her good friend, Steve Brockley.
