Rock and roll has been waiting patiently for the Howl. As musicians have been looking backwards for a more authentic sound grasping for the roots of rock and roll, the Howl is searching in the other direction. Three longtime friends have come together in Worcester, Massachusetts to play music that comes from shared experience and communication of emotion through sound. The boys were raised on the blues and traditional R&B, playing with some of the greatest blues musicians in the world when they were still in their teens. The Howl has added that authentic earthiness, passed on by the masters, to the modern rock and roll that pours out of their instruments with deep feeling.
The Howl's debut release Megahorn Breakdown Suite is drenched in the gritty blues tones of their youth, using those sounds as fuel for their unique songwriting . Add to that, a strong sense of interplay between the trio that runs wild and mean in a song like "Never be the Same", or soulful and pleading in "As I Am". The fierce rocking of Tom Callahan (drums) is accented by grooves laid thick and wide by JB (bass). Flowing through all of this is the sweeping guitar of Troy Gonyea (guitar,vocals), cranking out rhythmic explosions and lead lines interwoven around a vocal style that will stretch a note to its limit then gracefully bring it back to whisper or a growl, whichever suits the emotional effect of the tune.
As you are getting your first taste of the Howl, they have already written and rehearsed material for a follow-up full length release. You will hear them coming to your town soon, as the boys tour in support of Megahorn Breakdown Suite.
