Description:

(ID 343838)
Good Ole Southern Fried Texas Rock and Roll, a lil acid-country, less twang more overdrive driven.

10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Classic Rock, ROCK: Americana

Details:
The Hundred Year Flood have been knocking out folks in the South West for a few years now with their pop friendly power rock with a southern charm. "Cavalier" is their third studio release and its a knockout! Finally a cd that I can listen to over and over again.Like a southern fried Led Zeppelin meets Fleetwood Mac or inklings of the original Jefferson Airplane but much more modern - this Alt. country band is no retro outfit but modern as a fresh blooming rose and come out smelling just as fine. Hundred Year Flood is fresh Americana, sweet roots music, can be as technical as Beck with the dust brothers And they can Jam with the best of the Jam Band Scene, but they are SO MUCH MORE!
"Cavalier is a testament to Hundred Year Flood's ability to to write good songs and old school in-studio finese. Smart and catchy tunes combined with a powerhouse combo of musicians with hearts o gold blurrs the lines between rock and alt. country.Like a chameleon they can be anything they want to be as the moment calls for. Hundred Year Flood is the real deal, an old hippie told me he's been waiting for that sound and vibe for 30 years, reminded him of the Filmore days or Jefferson Airplane back when they were fresh and creative. Cavalier is an awesome album in the sense of how records used to be - something you listened to all the way thru and then again and again."

Hundred Year Flood

Hundred Year Flood is currently based out of the art mecca
of Santa Fe, NM; recently transplanted from the live music
capital of the world, Austin, TX. They have played all over the
western U.S., including the Sundance Film Festival with
Goshen, and have toured extensively in Mexico. The
members are Felecia Ford (voice and keys), Bill Palmer
(guitar and voice), Jim Palmer (drums) and Kendra Lauman
(bass). They take country/folk sensibilities and rock them as
hard as a noise pop jam band, from stark darkness to a
frenzied twang. Felecia Ford is a West Texas master of voice,
who cut her teeth on Broadway show tunes and the big
production theatrical stage. Brother's Bill and Jim Palmer
were members of the legendary Sharecroppers, Austin's
groundbreaking bluegrass rockers from before bluegrass
was cool again. Kendra Lauman started her career with the
Flood and roots the music to the ground with her rock solid
bass. The band currently has two albums under it's belt:
2000's critically acclaimed self-titled release and 2003's
"Flutterstrut" just released on Frogville Records. They have
also recorded and performed with the likes of Goshen,
Nathan Moore (of ThaMuseMeant) and Joe West (Santa
Fe's legendary country rocker).

"Hundred Year Flood combines smart hillbilly shake and stark ballads that feature the heartbreaking, riveting voice of Felecia Ford... and the
gorgeously understated drumming of Jim Palmer."
Jonanna Widner, Santa Fe Reporter

"Flood has both strong male and female vocals, backed by an acoustic rock style, with some twang... Their CD is strong, with intricate guitar
playing and intelligent lyrics... I have a feeling they could become a Telluride favorite."
Amy Kimberly, Telluride Watch

"You could go see an imitation of the real thing, or the real thing. These guys are the real thing..."
Grant Hayunga, Goshen

"One of my favorite bands..."
Joe West

"... excellent silky country pop... Not only are they cute, Hundred Year Flood can play too."
Santa Fe Reporter

"...if you're lucky, you'll hear Felecia Ford sing..."
Michael Corcoran, Austin American Statesman

Hundred Year Flood
Flutterstrut (Frogville Records)

http://www.frogvilleplanet.com/hyf.html

This is the pick of the crop for this week for
me, we are in the bad bad lands of insurgent
country, coming from Santa Fe's renegade
Frogville Records ( if you are hooked on
Bloodshot Records output as I am go find
Frogville do it now, get their sampler and start
exploring), find Joe West, discover Blind
James and Cameron Wade then, it will bring
you inevitably right back to HYF ....Felecia
Ford (voice and keys), Bill Palmer (guitar and
voice), Jim Palmer (drums) and Kendra
Lauman (bass). Felecia is Syd Straw meets
Janis Joplin on a good day, a really good day!
God she can sing this girl, so can Bill though,
both together and with that big dynamic wall
of sound they can create as a band, they must
rock live this combo, twang is more than just
evident, but so is mandolin and pedal steel,
heart tugging county folk roots and rock
attitude, and as psychedelic as Lenny Kravitz
vymura wall paper, (the odd guitar break is
reminiscent of our Lenny) and down home at
the drop of a hat, Its bang on, I tell you!! buy
it now!!! no doubt in my mind you will thank
me
