"May you live in interesting times."
- Ancient Chinese proverb

"Be careful what you wish for."
- Modern day reply

It's ironic that in an age dominated by strife - from the Culture Wars to the War on Terror - we find ourselves living through history, yet without a soundtrack in which to define these times. You would think that such a socio-political environment would provide the perfect canvass for new bands and artists to speak to this era, or at least
inspire something a bit more prescient than reality television.

The Inferno Merchants of New York are quickly becoming such a band that speaks to these new times. Their debut Warchild's Play is every bit as much a sonic blog as it is an album of ten songs depicting the cultural landscape of America at the dawn of the 21st century.

Shut Eye Records, which picked up the single Love, Springfield for one of its indie compilations, described lead singer James Frey's voice as, "Eerily reminiscent of David Bowie around the Young Americans phase," while lead guitarist Anthony G's style evokes comparisons to Carlos Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan giving the music more of a blues-rock edge, particularly on the tracks Cold Shoulder and How Dare I Breathe while the rhythm section of bassist John Miles and drummer Kevin Bregande fuses this sound with an R&B feel.

What fans have described as, "The soundtrack of the Drudge
Report,"and, "Music for people who like to get high and watch C-Span," is beginning to generate a buzz around the clubs of the New York City vicinity and beyond. Perhaps this is why The Inferno Merchants are packing historic venues in their hometown such as The Bitter End and The Baggot Inn. Stay tuned...
