Details:
Bobby Martin has been an entertainer since age 17. At an early age he played the vibraphone with several groups around Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. He also played piano and sang. He went to college on a 4 year scholarship and wrote charts for the Kentucky State Jazz Band. He stayed in college for only a year and a half. He then joined the Len Hope Orchestra which eventually took him to Philadelphia on a 5 year contract at the Showboat Club. The Len Hope Orchestra was very popular and packed the house everywhere they went. He enjoyed success with the Band as the vibraphone player. He loved to solo on the instrument and still does so today.
He got into the recording business in 1960 as a musician, producer, and arranger. Bobby Martin produced, arranged and played vibes and piano on dozens of big hit records by groups and singers like Patti LaBelle, The Ojays, Billy Paul, The Manhattans, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, The Three Degrees, Lou Rawls and Nancy Wilson to name a few. Bobby gave Patti La Belle her famous name. He also arranged TSOP the theme song for the popular TV show Soul Train and received a Grammy for the Soul Train arrangement and a Grammy for the production of K-JEE on the Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever sound track album.
Critics say his music can be heard every 5 minutes somewhere around the world and this has been true ever since starting around 1961. He has played at many jazz festivals. Bobby likes to play and sing a variety of styles of music. He says he writes his own songs, âwith people in mind in order to bring joy to their livesâ, and he has been doing so for decades.
Bobby Martin was a Producer and/or Arranger on Hit Songs like Love Train, Soul Train, If You Donât Know Me By Now, When Will I See You Again, âYouâll Never Find (Another Love Like Mineâ), K-JEE on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack album and countless other songs.
